What would you do?

Post by JoJo » 14 Feb 2013, 12:36

I have a chance to trade one of my three 5.7 pistols for a Sig 556 SWAT pistol (10" threaded barrel). I kinda like the idea of a second gun that shoots 5.56 ammo. I have searched the internet for reviews on the Sig and it seems to be a good gun.

Your thoughts? :ponder:

Disclaimer: I don't readily recommend Sigs to anyone, as a brand to buy. The older Sigs? Yes. Like P210s and Competition models. Most of the newer ones? No.

I've shot the Sig in 5.56; I believe there are different variants; I've shot both of them, and they feel the same. Front heavy, unimpressive.

At first, I assumed that this was an SBR. Re-reading it, I saw the word "pistol". If it were an SBR, I'd say it would be a fair trade (though I wouldn't want one, personally). Being basically a "carbine" pistol, I don't care for pistol'd carbines.

If you think pistol'd carbines are practical, then it is kinda'f a fair trade. Pretty good.

Personally, I wouldn't. But my values don't apply to everyone :)

I agree, I'm not a huge fan of the SIG 556 as they are front heavy to the point of making them feel unbalanced. I'm not sure of the pistol version improves on that feeling or not as I have never held one, but I can imagine it's not something you would want to shoot one handed like you could an actual pistol.

Didn't they try to make 5.56 AP ammo illegal because of these awhile back? What ever happened to that, as I still see 5.56 AP for sale.

If I had a SIG 5.56 pistol, I'd trade it for a FsN every day of the week and twice on Sundays.

Just sayin'...

This is closer to how I felt, but I wanted to give a fair and balanced answer.

Thanks to Greenberg for posting this. :thumb:

They'll never outlaw it. M855 is everywhere, the MIL uses it. No way they can control it.

While I like Sig, I don't much care for their (American-made) rifles.

I think the issue was there is already a law banning armor piercing ammo for pistols, and just tried to apply it to every caliber that had a rifle "pistol" version such as the sig556 shorty. Considering they can't make it illegal to own after the fact and its still on the market today, I'm guessing they gave up on that and would only attempt to apply that law as a secondary charge to someone that actually uses it for a crime.

Boy, 100% in agreement. My only concern is having 5k rounds of 223 and my only 223 gun breaks. I don't think I want another AR15 so the Sig 556 Swat pistol was a compromise.

Back to the drawing board.

Thanks all.

Want something to feed all those rounds to?

You could always order one of these:

viewtopic.php?f=27&t=13565&hilit=us+version&start=40" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Yeah, that thing pushes all my buttons. Unfortunately, I am now in my trading mode. The bank is not accepting my phone calls anymore. :( :( :(

Well that sucks. If you want to sell any of those rounds, let me know. I am down to 250 rounds of .223/5.56 that I won't shoot because I want to put as many through the Tavor as possible when it ships in Mar/Apr.

Plus I'm sure I have a bunch-o-friends who are going to want to try it. I'd say that it would be a BYOA day, but I don't think they have any either...

I'd pass.

If you don't want the FiveSeven, throw em up on gunbroker at profit or let em go here on the forum for what they're worth.

Use the profits to buy you something you do want.

I want it and three more (one for each active room). If I sell it I will have to use the money for immediate needs which goes against my paranoia. I will try to trade one of my guitars for a 223! :)

I have a female friend that is in Law enforcement and she bought a SIG AR for practice and told me she hates every minute of the weapon compared to her supplied Cop AR, bushmaster....I believe

All the 5.7s are staying at home. I realize how much I would miss even one of them and the comfort they bring. Now I am looking at a "cheap" Keltec ar15 to hide in the closet. I know not to expect the Keltec to shoot or last like my LMT but it will be ok for a backup.

It occurred to me this morning that at some point I will have all the guns I need (want). That will leave a void in my day because the chase is half the fun. :( :( :(
