Decapping before wash or after?

Post by FNH5-7+FS2000 » 27 May 2015, 19:10

Hello everyone! I am new to the forum and reloading. So new that I have bought everything I need now to start. I have plenty of brass I collected. Do I have to spray with one shot before I decap or wash with simple green first then spray and decap. I have read that 1 part simple green to 4 parts water for 10 min then rinse. Is that correct? Thanks for your help. :ponder:

Yep but warm water with that simple green ratio and you can go 15 minutes.

To each their own, most guys resize and de-prime single stage even if loading on a progressive press.

That way all the sizing lube can also be removed during the cleaning.

I use a universal de-primer on all my brass and then clean them. I use Hornady one shot to lube for sizing and have never removed it because per Hornady it does not effect the loads. I do this even if I will be using my progressive press. But all in all as Jay says "to each his own".

I'm a washer firster in simple green and hot water, couple rinses, let em dry, and then I using Redding wax to size and deprime. It's messy, but I like the extra slipperyness (?) since there's so much shoulder movement going on, especially these days. Also use that goop to form 300BLK from LC brass, but everything else I use One Shot for, it's mad easy.
