Re: Food For Thought...

All good information. Also reinforces the idea that the very best caliber is.... the one you have on you when you need it.

Re: New reloader

OK, good advice. I have CCI 41 military primers. My single stage press is a Lee classic, and I must admit, it feels downright "dainty" next to the 550. Tell me more about "uniform headspace resizings". I have been using the barrel from my FsN as a case gauge, but I think I will order the EA. I like ...

New reloader

I finally bit the bullet and tried to dip my toe into the reloading arena. I can hear you all laughing already. It's hard not to fall into the deep end. I know from reading here that 5.7 is not the cartridge to start with. I bought a cluster of equipment from the estate of a widow. I took my time cl...

Before you get too far into tearing it apart, dry fire it once or twice. That should clear the firing pin.

Re: bought 5.7 ammo RECENTLY?

Well, nevermind. The last order of 10 boxes arrived. I was in such a good mood I went online to order another 10; and the price went up to $21.99 a box. Dang it, all I had to do was say something and ruin a good thing. I better go shoot this stuff.

Re: bought 5.7 ammo RECENTLY?

It warms my heart to be able to pick up ss197 so cheap from Palmetto State. Their "deal" price has been there for months. With shipping, I can drop $171 and have 10 boxes arrive at my door a few days later. I can't even pick up 10 boxes of new 45ACP that cheap locally. Just place another order today...

Re: PS90 Trigger Job

I was bored one evening and took mine apart and polished the steel trigger pushrod and put a little dry graphite lube everywhere it touched the stock. I didn't do a before and after trigger pull measurement, but the difference in feel was noticeable.

Impressive pictures and cut work. Am I right to assume the carbon buildup came after the bulge appeared? or was it something that caused the bulge?

Re: Another brass question 45 ACP this time

My experience (FWIW) is that loaded to standard specs, you can load .45ACP brass until you can't find it anymore. I have loaded Detonics .451 magnum. It uses brass with a stronger web. It is 40 thousandths longer so that it won't chamber in a 45, and it is loaded significantly hotter. Detonics used ...

Wow. All good questions, and I can see why your head hurts. You refer to a specific patent, even by page number, like it is a document we are all familiar with. I have not seen it and cannot find a link in the forum wiki. If you have such a link, send it up. I would love to see it. We have a couple ...

If you hang out with varmint hunters, you can't tell me you don't have at least one friend with a hole in their hood from "barrel below the scope".

A few years back, a user on this board named "Beecher Tool" was talking about investing in a hydraulic press and swaging his own bullets. Any one know how that worked out?

Re: Official Flashlight Thread!

I'm reviving a zombie thread, just to share this recent experience. Flashlights have changed a lot in the past few years. I like to have one EVERYWHERE. Costco made that easy with three packs of handy little lights. However, I'm still always in search of the perfect light. I live in Nevada, and last...

Re: New Member Checking In

King, interesting results. Nothing like real world observation. It trumps my speculation every time. I think that's why the snipers like to use Data Observed from Previous Encounters (DOPE) to dial in their scopes. What part of the world are you in? I might have some powder that would be fun to try ...

Re: New Member Checking In

King, I agree with Jay. The lacquer is necessary to create the delay. I am a pretty serious amateur at this, so this observation should be taken with a few grains of salt. In the most recent iteration of the Savage 17HMR semi-auto, they have added an interrupter to the bolt in order to delay the blo...

Re: New Member Checking In

king, welcome aboard. Keep posting your results, as they are very interesting. I have some very unscientific thoughts about your FTF jams. If the spent case is ejecting, the load has plenty of power to drive the slide all the way back. It sounds more like timing than power. The action is pretty sens...

Re: Guide for Pimping Out your PS 90?

I have an older PS90 with a white ring sight and a gen 2 hammer pack. I have played with a few "pimp" ideas, and have only ended up with 3. First, I put a green Rem T3 on it. Pretty much makes the sight awesome. Second may not sound like a big deal. I took apart the stock and polished the trigger ba...

Re: Slidefire AR15 vs. 2,000 Milk Jugs (HD)

I'm impressed. My slide fire is fun, but even after a 30 rounder it is smoking hot. I can't imagine running 100 rounder through it. It is a serious money-to-noise converter. I get about 1.7 seconds for a full 30 rounds.
